Donating HK$50 million for the “Digital Creative Centre” in the Project E of Chung Chi College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
2025-11-13

CWM/Nethersole Fund marks its 28th year in 2025. In the 1990s, the land of the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (“Hospital”) on Bonham Road in Hong Kong Mid-level was sold due to the relocation of the Hospital to Tai Po in the New Territories. The land was first made available by the London Missionary Society (“LMS”, now known as the Council for World Mission) for use by the Hospital. Both LMS and the Hospital agreed to allocate a portion of the sale proceeds to set up a trust fund dedicated to supporting the projects and services in need in both Hong Kong and Mainland China. Acting as faithful stewards, the Trustees of the Fund rigorously screen every grant application to ensure proper use of resources. They also appoint professional investment managers to oversee the Fund’s finances, ensuring its continued ability to serve the community and share the Lord’s grace even after 28 years.

In July 2025, the Fund’s Trustees resolved to donate HK$50 million for the “Digital Creative Centre” under Project E of Chung Chi College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (“CCC-CUHK”). On 31 October 2025 (Friday), Trustees of the Fund, including Chairman, Rev. Dr. So Shing Yit Eric, The Very Revd Chan Kwok Keung, Rev. Ng Ka Chung Janet, Rev. Po Kam Cheong, and Honorary Advisor, The Rt. Rev. Dr. Soo Yee Po Thomas attended the Thanksgiving Service Celebrating the 74th Anniversary of Chung Chi College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, during which the “Donation Ceremony of Project E” was held.

At the donation ceremony, the Fund Chairman, Rev. Dr. So Shing Yit Eric on behalf of the Fund presented a ceremonial cheque to Dr. Chan Tak Lam Norman, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of CCC-CUHK, symbolising the Fund’s support for the Project E. Dr. Chan then presented Rev. Dr. So with an exquisite calligraphy artwork on behalf of Chung Chi College, representing the gratitude of the staff team and students. Afterwards, the Fund’s Trustees and Honorary Advisor took group photos with Dr. Chan Tak-lam Norman, Mr. Chan Cho Biu Eric (Vice-Chairperson of the College Board of Trustees and Convenor of the Campus Facilities Committee), Prof. Ling Kar Kan (Deputy Convenor of the Campus Facilities Committee), Mr. Cheng Man Shan Ricky (Convenor of the Fundraising Committee), and Mrs. Tsang Chan Kwai Mui Carol (Deputy Convenor of the Fundraising Committee).

Following the Service, the College hosted a donation appreciation banquet. Prior to the start of the banquet, Rev. Dr. So delivered a speech. He expressed that “The Fund supports the Project E of Chung Chi College. On one hand, the project aligns with the Fund's donation criteria for supporting innovative initiatives and nurturing talent, and the Fund's predecessors made significant contributions in response to the needs of specific projects in the past. Therefore, this donation upholds the legacy and demonstrates support for university education. On the other hand, God's grace is inexhaustible. Over the 28 years since the Fund's establishment, the total amount of donations for supporting different projects has exceeded HK$500 million, yet its current assets stand at 1.5 times the initial capital and have not been depleted by these expenditures. It is God’s abundant provision that enables the Fund to keep sharing, and the ability to share is itself a grace. I hope that the Fund's modest contribution will bless every student, the entire CUHK community, and the future development of Chung Chi College.”
